Stud-Finder Find Them All
If you are having trouble finding a stud, try a stud-finder — a gizmo you slide along the wall. It senses changes in the density of materials inside the walls and lights up and beeps when it passes over a stud.
You also could use a magnetic stud-finder — one that finds nails in the studs, with a magnet. But be careful. Metal pipes and other materials create false signals. Studs are usually 16 inches or 24 inches apart; so when you find one, it’s easy to find others.
