Question

We need to replace our storm windows on a Dutch Colonial style home circa 1918. Would you please give us recommendations? It was suggested we replace with new windows vs. storm. Besides the cost what would you recommend, all of the windows on the first floor have been replaced with in the last eight years and are double hung (up and down style). Thanks — I enjoy your radio show on Saturday’s!

Answer

If your existing windows are in good condition we would suggest only storm windows. There is no single window – double pane or otherwise – that will perform as well the combination of a good double pane window with a storm window.
