Check with your local municipal permits and inspections department to find out what code is now being used in your area

The Beatles made their last public appearance in 1969 after nearly a decade and hundreds of hit songs representing an incredible and impressive body of work. If you’re building an impressive body of work for your home — say with new windows, remodeling, with major plumbing or electrical work, you need to know if and when you need a building permit or why codes are good and building inspectors are your friend.

Basically all codes serve one purpose: to ensure proper workmanship and, ultimately, your safety. You need to know when the scope of your work causes codes to kick in and why. Knowing codes will even help you communicate with the tradespeople you hire. There’s also a new international residential code published in March, 2000 meant to replace various regional ones. As John Lennon said, “imagine”, then check with your local municipal permits and inspections department to find out what code is now being used in your area.
