BEWARE When Refinishing Old Painted Surfaces
By onthehouse on March 24, 2014
Sometimes “green” isn’t always what it seems. Green is the politically correct term used to describe a technique or method that is environmentally friendly.
Recently we did a TV segment with a group of high-school students who demonstrated how they refinished a 100-year-old painted furniture. The teacher said that the wirebrush removal method was green because harsh chemical paint strippers were not involved. We have since advised him that his green technique was actually an aerosol of lead poisoning.
Sanding or wirebrushing paint that contains lead is EXTREMELY dangerous.
