KIDDE Recalls Dual Sensor Smoke Alarms

KIDDE Dual Sensor Smoke Alarm – PI2010 and PI9010

As you may know, smoke alarms are often sold with dual sensing technology. The photoelectric sensor is responsible for sensing smoldering fires, whereas, the ionization sensor picks up flaming fires. Well, the KIDDE Dual Sensor Smoke Alarm, models PI2010 and PI9010, doesn’t sense either!

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, KIDDE has recalled these alarms because a yellow cap was left on during the manufacturing process. This cap covers one of the two sensors rendering the product useless and posing a tremendous fire hazard to consumers in their homes.

There’s hope though! The CPSC states that all you have to do is remove your smoke alarm, look inside the alarm through the opening on the side, and if a yellow cap is present, immediately call KIDDE at 833-551-7739 to receive further instructions and a free replacement.

Discard the alarm only after a replacement has been received. If you remove the alarm and there’ is no yellow cap visible, reinstall it, because there is no further action needed.

This recall involves about 452,000 units, but, so far, there has been only one report of the yellow cap being present in the alarm and no reports of injuries or incidents.
