I heard that spackle wasn’t good to use to patch a crack.

Answer
Good question. Spackle is a great patch material for small holes and very small cracks. However, when it comes to larger crack repairs it is wise to use a flexible compound such as paintable silicone caulk or sheetrock joint compound & joint tape. Larger cracks have a tendency to open and close with changes in seasons and when your house shifts. Spackle is very brittle and will crumble if a repaired crack flexes ever so slightly. Restrict your use of Spackle to nail holes and small divots in wallboard and trim. Pick up a tube of paintable silicone.
