Question

We are planning to remodel our kitchen and will need all new appliances. There are so many different brands and models. Is there any simple way that I can make comparisons?

Answer

Since appliances are one of the most important components in your kitchen, we would suggest that you take a good hard look at the type of appliances you want and what you’re willing to pay . That is to say, you can get a basic electric cooktop for under $300 or you can spend close to $750 for a top-of-the-line gas cooktop.Another consideration is what will work well in your new configuration, and the ease of use associated with the appliance and it’s placement. Many major appliance dealers have displays and floor models that permit you to closely examine features and finishes. Product warranty also is an important factor in appliance selection. Be sure that you are covered in the event of a problem. And, for an additional fee, some appliance manufacturers will offer extended warranties similar to those in the automobile industry.

An excellent source for comparison information on all types of appliances is Consumer Reports Book Guide to Appliances. Consumer Reports does an excellent job in presenting the data on everything from efficiency to noise levels in a clear and understandable fashion.
