Effective Ways to Combat Heat
On hot days, does your house feel more like an oven than a home? Good news — a few simple upgrades will not only keep you from roasting, they won’t cook your pocket book either. One of the most cost-effective ways to combat heat is with insulation in walls and the attic. If you don’t have insulation, install it. If you do have it, check to make sure that it is adequate. Compacted insulation loses its effectiveness and should be replaced with new. Good attic ventilation is another key to keeping your cool. Vents at the gable, eaves and ridge will help trapped hot air escape. If that isn’t enough, a thermostatically controlled attic fan will do the trick. An attic fan can be installed on the roof or at a gable, and requires only an electrical circuit. Here’s to keeping your cool!
