I heard you mention problems with connecting copper and galvanized steel pipe, and would appreciate info on pipe insulators.

Electrolysis (metal deterioration) results when dissimilar metals such as copper and galvanized pipe come into contact. This all-too-common plumbing problem is easily prevented with the use of a dielectric union (a pipe connector that does not allow dissimilar metals to come into contact with each other).Dielectric unions are available at any plumbing-supply outlet or a well-stocked hardware store.
