Building Codes
What you should know about a perceived ‘nuisance’
Building codes; are they a nuisance, or do they keep you safe? While it’s debatable with things like a glass of water (half full or half empty?), there’s no question building codes are a good thing. They serve one purpose — to ensure proper workmanship and your safety.
However, many are confused as to when building permits are required and which codes apply to the work being done. While there are national codes, and national building code “organizations,” they all give way to local code officials who best know specific regional requirements — from Florida hurricanes to California earthquakes. What codes are best for your neck of the woods? Let the city or county building department show you how and why a perceived nuisance is really a very good thing.
