Easy solution for stainless steel mess – go “fingerprintless!”

Fingerprints traditionally have been used to solve crimes; now fingerprint technology fights grime, as well. In the kitchen, due to its gleaming surfaces, stainless steel is more popular than ever. That’s a big plus, but on the downside, stainless steel shows fingerprints more than anything else in the kitchen. Now manufacturers have introduced stainless steel that stays free of prints — for refrigerators, dishwashers, trash compactors and all non-heating kitchen appliances.

There are two types, one is sheet steel with a vinyl-clad surface, that looks much like stainless steel. It resists fingerprints and will hold magnets. The other is true stainless steel with a secret surface barrier coating that resists prints without changing the appearance. The latter is also offered for existing appliances, as ‘update’ panels, to reface rather than replace. Both are now available.
